Udupi, Aug 18: Vidushi Deeksha V, a young artiste from Munkinjaddu, Brahmavar, is set to enter the Golden Book of World Records by performing Bharatanatyam continuously for 216 hours.
The nine-day feat, titled Navarasa Deeksha Vaibhavam, will be held from August 21 to 30 at the Dr G Shankar Women’s College PG Auditorium, Ajjarkad.

Addressing mediapersons on August 17, Deeksha said, “Initially, I was unsure of what to do, but my teacher advised me to first complete Vidwath and then pursue this goal. Later, when Vidwan Yashwanth M G set a world record by singing for 24 hours, I was inspired to attempt one myself. With his guidance, I applied online. During my Vidwath preparation, I practiced extensively, took nutritional advice, and followed a healthy diet. My teacher, Vidwan Sridhar Rao, has been a great support. This is my first major achievement in Bharatanatyam. I will be performing as per the Marga Paddhati, and as per the rules, I will take a 15-minute break every three hours.”
Deeksha began learning Bharatanatyam at the age of two, when her mother enrolled her in dance classes, and has been practicing rigorously since the age of four. Alongside Bharatanatyam, she has also trained in Yakshagana, Veena, Chende, Maddale, and painting.
An alumna of Little Rock Indian School, Amrutha Bharathi PU College, and Dr G Shankar Women’s College, Ajjarkad, Deeksha is currently pursuing her B Ed at Dr TMA Pai College of Education, Kunjibettu.
The record attempt is supported by Ratna Sanjeeva Kalamandala, Manipal, under the leadership of Mahesh Thakur and with the guidance of former Udupi MLA K Raghupathi Bhat.
The programme will be inaugurated on August 21 at 2 pm at Dr G Shankar Women’s College PG Auditorium, Ajjarkad. The performance will commence at 3.30 pm the same day and conclude with a valedictory function on August 30.
The press conference was attended by Vidwan Sridhar Rao, Vidushi Usha Hebbar, and Ashwini Mahesh Thakur.
