AIIMS senior doctor narrowly escapes after being dragged by car; police launch hunt for driver

New Delhi, Aug 21: Tension gripped the AIIMS campus in the capital after a senior doctor was allegedly struck and dragged by a speeding car inside the hospital premises. The incident took place on August 18 around 4 pm near Gate No. 1, police said on Wednesday.

According to the complaint, the doctor had noticed the vehicle causing a traffic jam and requested the driver to reverse so that other cars could pass. Instead, the accused allegedly accelerated and hit him.

“The driver did not stop after the first collision. He struck me two more times and dragged me along with the car before I managed to save my life,” the doctor stated in his complaint.

Based on the report, an FIR under Section 110 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered at Hauz Khas Police Station.

Police teams have seized CCTV footage from the campus and are in the process of identifying eyewitnesses. “The vehicle number has been noted. Multiple teams are working to trace the suspect using technical surveillance,” a senior officer confirmed.

Investigators are also probing whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol or other substances at the time of the incident.
