15 Pakistani fishermen held in Gujarat waters by BSF, coast guard

Bhuj, Aug 24: In a joint maritime operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Indian Coast Guard apprehended 15 Pakistani fishermen along with an engine-fitted country boat while they were fishing illegally in Indian waters near Kori Creek, Kutch.

Acting on intelligence inputs from the BSF’s 68 Battalion, a search was launched on Saturday in the general area under Border Outpost (BOP) BBK, close to the India-Pakistan maritime border.

The operation, led by Ashok Kumar, 2IC (Ops), with officers from the 176 and 68 Battalions and Coast Guard support, involved vessel FAC Prahar and patrol boats from FBOP Mukkunala and FBOP Devri Nala. After an extensive search of adjoining mudflats, 15 Pakistani nationals, all from Jaati village in Sindh’s Sujawal district, were caught fishing illegally.

The men, aged between 20 and 50, were found with a country-made boat, 60 kg of fish, nine large nets, and provisions including food grains, fuel, and ice — indicating preparations for a prolonged stay at sea. A mobile phone with Pakistani SIMs, currency, and other materials were also seized.

Officials said the operation highlights India’s continued vigilance to secure its maritime borders against illegal intrusion and fishing activities.
