Cairo, Aug 24: A devastating field trip turned fatal in Egypt as six students lost their lives and 24 others were injured in a drowning accident at Abu Talat beach in Alexandria’s Agami district. According to Egypt’s Health Ministry, the victims were part of a student group from an academy specializing in air hospitality. Emergency responders arrived quickly, with three of the injured treated on-site and 21 taken to nearby hospitals. Health Minister Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar emphasized ongoing medical support and called for strict adherence to beach safety measures to avoid such tragedies in the future. The specific circumstances of the drowning remain unclear.

Meanwhile, Romania is reeling from deadly storms that swept through 18 counties and the capital Bucharest, leaving at least three people dead and four others injured. Emergency services reported severe damage, including more than 240 toppled trees and power poles, flooded buildings, and dozens of wrecked vehicles. In Arges county, a collapsing roof killed one person and injured two more. In Ilfov county, two kayakers drowned after their boat capsized in violent waters. Additional injuries were reported in Prahova and Bucharest from falling debris.

Authorities issued 19 severe weather alerts on Friday as rivers swelled to record levels and floodwaters claimed two more lives—elderly women whose bodies were later recovered by rescue teams.
