Tehran, Aug 25: Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has accused the United States of seeking to subjugate Iran, calling Washington's expectation of obedience “offensive” and firmly rejecting any possibility of direct negotiations. Speaking in Tehran on Sunday, Khamenei warned of continued foreign efforts to undermine the Islamic Republic and called for unity in the face of external threats.
According to Iranian state media, Khamenei cited persistent hostility from the U.S. dating back to the 1979 Islamic Revolution. He claimed that the U.S. aims to reshape Iran's political future, referencing a June 13 attack on Iranian nuclear facilities allegedly carried out by Israel. He said that the very next day, “American agents” met in a European capital to plan for a "post-Islamic Republic" era, even discussing the reinstallation of a monarchy.
“These hostile plots were crushed by the resilience of the Iranian people and the strength of our institutions,” Khamenei declared.

He portrayed recent Israeli and U.S. actions — including rare joint attacks in June targeting key Iranian nuclear infrastructure — as deliberate attempts to destabilize the country. Khamenei framed these events as part of a broader strategy to overthrow the Islamic Republic through coordinated external aggression and internal division.
In a strong message of domestic solidarity, he urged Iranians to stand united and support President Masoud Pezeshkian’s administration, cautioning that Iran’s adversaries are now shifting focus from military confrontation to efforts aimed at fueling internal discord.
Khamenei also denounced Israel's ongoing military campaign in Gaza, criticizing Western nations for supporting it. He expressed support for the Houthi movement in Yemen, describing their actions against Israel as legitimate resistance.
Tensions between Tehran and Washington have remained high for decades, with diplomatic ties severed following the 1979 revolution and subsequent U.S. embassy hostage crisis. Successive U.S. administrations have maintained a hard line against Iran, intensifying sanctions in recent years over Tehran’s nuclear program and regional activities.
