Bengaluru, Aug 28: For nearly three decades, Samsung R&D Institute India – Bengaluru (SRI-B) has been at the forefront of innovations that first cater to Indian users and later make their way to global markets. Today, the centre stands as the largest overseas software R&D hub under Samsung Research, playing a decisive role in shaping the company’s vision for the future.

In an exclusive media interaction, Mohan Rao Goli, Corporate Vice President (CVP) and Managing Director of SRI-B, outlined how the Bengaluru centre has transformed from a simple delivery unit into an innovation powerhouse.

Goli said the centre focuses on four technology pillars – wireless communications, computer vision, system software, and the Internet of Things. With artificial intelligence embedded across all these areas, Samsung’s efforts are directed at making Galaxy AI a foundational platform rather than just a collection of features.

The Bengaluru unit has developed several India-specific features including UPI integration in Samsung Wallet and Voice Focus, which have now gained wider acceptance globally. Other notable contributions include auto-transition for Galaxy Fold 7 cameras, AI wallpaper, audio eraser and Now Brief, all part of the latest Galaxy devices.

Emphasising Samsung’s global teamwork, Goli explained that R&D centres across Suwon, Seoul and Bengaluru work collectively to bring meaningful innovations to Galaxy devices. He noted that Bengaluru has played an instrumental role in creating multiple AI-driven features for the Galaxy Fold 7 and Flip 7.

According to Goli, Samsung’s next leap lies in moving from smartphones to AI phones, which marks a fundamental platform shift. He said the future of Galaxy devices will not be limited to hardware upgrades, but will revolve around AI as the core of user interaction.

He added that each technology pillar is adopting AI to create unique services, whether in payments, communications or everyday convenience. Through Samsung Wallet and Samsung Finance+, Indian consumers’ needs are being directly addressed, with Bengaluru continuing to play a key role in the company’s global innovation journey.
