Mumbai, Jul 28: Actor Ram Kapoor has shared an emotional account of his father's final days, revealing that he stood by his father's decision to stop treatment after pancreatic cancer relapsed during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking on the reality show Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa, Kapoor said his father, Anil Kapoor (not the Bollywood actor of the same name), had previously battled pancreatic cancer but chose not to undergo further treatment after the disease returned at the age of 73.

According to Kapoor, his father called him and his wife, Gautami Kapoor, to express his decision.

"He told me he didn't want to fight the disease anymore. He wanted to go, but he was scared of doing it alone. He asked me if I could be with him in his final moments," Kapoor said.

The actor said his father later chose palliative care instead of active medical treatment.

"When he was admitted to the ICU, I stayed with him. There was no treatment happening. He only wanted me to hold his hand. He wasn't scared of dying; he was scared of being alone. He also said he didn't want anyone to cry at his funeral," Kapoor recalled.

Kapoor said the experience had a lasting impact on him and his family.

"It has been more than five years. He lived with dignity and passed away the way he wanted. Seeing death so closely changed my perspective completely," he said, adding that the incident created differences within his family.

Earlier on the show, Kapoor had also revealed that he was sexually abused at the age of 13 while studying at a boarding school. He said an older student allegedly molested him in a dormitory, leaving him traumatised and unable to react.

Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa, hosted by Farah Khan and Riteish Deshmukh, features contestants including Ram Kapoor, Shreya Kalra, Shivangi Joshi, Harshad Chopra, Akanksha Chamola, Akanksha Chaudhary, Sufi Motiwala, Dheeraj Dhoopar and Varun Yadav.
