Damascus, Aug 29: Saudi Arabia has taken the spotlight as the guest of honor at the 62nd Damascus International Fair, being held in the Syrian capital from August 27 to September 5. The Kingdom’s high-profile participation marks a major step in strengthening bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation, while aligning with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals.
A strong delegation representing the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Investment, Saudi Export Development Authority, Saudi-Syrian Business Council, and the Saudi Export-Import Bank is attending the fair, alongside more than 80 Saudi companies from varied sectors. The participation aims to highlight the competitiveness of Saudi products and services, and to boost regional trade.
Several strategic agreements and MoUs are expected to be signed during the event, particularly in the fields of energy, renewable energy, investment, and trade, opening new avenues of cooperation between Riyadh and Damascus. Officials noted that the initiative underlines Saudi Arabia’s broader strategy to expand its footprint in regional and international exhibitions, thereby bolstering partnerships worldwide.
The Damascus International Fair, established in 1954, is one of the oldest and most prominent trade exhibitions in the Arab world. Historically, it has served as a key platform for international commerce, culture, and diplomacy, attracting exhibitors from both Eastern and Western blocs. Despite interruptions caused by the civil war and the pandemic, the fair has regained its stature since its revival in 2017.
Observers say Saudi Arabia’s prominent role as the guest of honor signals not just a diplomatic and trade boost but also reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to economic diversification beyond oil. The participation is being seen as a practical step towards achieving Vision 2030, enhancing non-oil exports, and strengthening regional economic integration.
