Udupi, Aug 30: “It is indeed a matter of pride for the people of Tulunadu that for the first time, an English medium school has celebrated the rich traditions of Tulunadu. Tulunadu food introduced years ago is to be introduced to our children today. Food and culture go hand in hand," said Walter Nandalike, founder of Daijiworld media group.

He was speaking as the chief guest at ‘Trinityda Gauji Gammath’ organized by Trinity Central School, Perampalli, celebrating the rich traditions, cuisine, and heritage of Tulunadu.

In his address, chief guest Walter Nandalike highlighted the deep connection between food and culture. Reminiscing about traditional Aati celebrations, he noted how Tulunadu cuisine, once simple, is now celebrated with a wide variety of dishes. Stressing the importance of health, he said, “Health is not valued until it is lost. Tulunadu food, prepared in harmony with nature, carries wisdom that must be passed on to our children. In today’s fast-paced world of pizza and burgers, we must reintroduce our children to our roots. Our Prime Minister introduced the Fit India movement. The programme aims to build strength in body, sharpness of mind, and softness of heart. It is indeed commendable that Trinity Central School has taken the initiative to introduce children to our roots. The school not only concentrates on book learning but also on life learning, which is of utmost importance.”

He further encouraged families to serve Tulunadu food at least twice a month and reminded parents and teachers to recognize each child’s unique strengths and interests. “Education is not only about scoring marks, but about leading real life with strength of body, sharpness of mind, and softness of heart,” he added.

Principal Fr Dominic Sunil Lobo, in his message, described the occasion as a journey back to the roots. He expressed gratitude to the Trinity family, staff, PTA, students, and parents for their support. He said, “Today’s celebration is not just about food, but about rediscovering the wisdom of generations who understood the value of seasonal and traditional practices. In a world of fast food, let us never forget the power of slow food.”

The day’s celebration showcased the essence of Tulunadu through its flavours, traditions, and values, making it a memorable cultural experience for students and parents alike. Various traditional foods and drinks were served on the occasion. The traditional games of Tulunadu were also organized. The Pilivesha performance was a showstopper.

The programme was compered by Pallavi Santhosh and Sharon D'Souza. Other dignitaries present included Fr Dominic Sunil Lobo, principal; Fr Amar Lobo, vice principal; Priya Furtado, president PTA; Deepthi Survarna, secretary PTA; Magdaline Lewis, academic advisor; and others.

The event began with a warm welcome address by counsellor Anisha Rodrigues, while Volita Lewis delivered the vote of thanks.
