Israeli hostage’s mother threatens legal action against Netanyahu

Tel Aviv, Aug 31: The mother of Israeli hostage Matan Zangauker has vowed to hold Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accountable if his planned military offensive in Gaza results in her son's death, warning of prosecution for premeditated murder.

“If Netanyahu chooses to occupy the Gaza Strip instead of the current truce framework, it will be the execution of our hostages and dear soldiers,” Einav Zangauker said at a rally demanding the safe return of the hostages.

Earlier this month, Hamas agreed to a framework for a truce and hostage release, but Israel has not yet officially responded. Addressing the Prime Minister, she said, “If my Matan returns in a coffin, I will personally ensure you are charged with premeditated murder.”

Matan Zangauker was abducted from his home in Kibbutz Nir Oz along with his Israeli-Mexican girlfriend Ilana Gritzewsky during Hamas’s October 2023 attack. Gritzewsky was released in November 2023 during the first of two temporary truces in nearly two years of conflict.

Since then, Einav Zangauker has emerged as a prominent voice in the campaign for the safe return of hostages.
