Berlin, Sep 5: German auto giant Volkswagen has announced the revival of its iconic Polo, this time as an all-electric hatchback under the brand’s “ID” range of EVs. The upcoming models — ID.Polo and ID.Polo GTI — are set to be unveiled in production form in 2026, after being showcased at the Munich Motor Show later this year.
The ID.Polo will be based on Volkswagen’s MEB platform and is expected to offer battery options of 38 kWh and 56 kWh, delivering a range of up to 450 km on a single charge. Fast-charging capabilities of up to 125 kW are also being planned.
The performance-focused ID.Polo GTI will feature a 226 hp motor, while the GTI Clubsport variant is slated to deliver 286 hp. At the top end, an all-wheel-drive ‘R’ version will pack a dual-motor setup producing 400 hp.
On the design front, the EV hatchbacks will sport slim LED headlamps, sleek taillights, and a roomy glasshouse. The GTI variants will come with more aggressive styling cues such as bulging wheel arches, front diffusers, split spoilers, dual rear cutouts, and larger alloys with exclusive designs.
Measuring 4,053 mm in length, 1,816 mm in width, and 1,530 mm in height, the ID.Polo is slightly bigger than the current ICE Polo. Inside, the EV will feature a 12.9-inch infotainment screen, a 10.9-inch digital cluster, and physical buttons for audio and climate controls. Volkswagen has also confirmed the use of sustainable cabin materials, avoiding glue and hard plastics, in line with its green strategy.
The launch of ID.Polo marks a new chapter for Volkswagen, as it blends its rich legacy with an electric future.
