Mumbai, Sep 15: Following heavy rainfall on Sunday and Monday morning, Mumbai’s seven major lakes have reached 98.49% of their combined 14.47 lakh million-litre capacity, ensuring sufficient water supply for the city.
Vehar and Tulsi lakes are now full, with 24-hour rainfall of 45 mm and 42 mm respectively. Upper Vaitarna stood at 98.73%, Modak Sagar increased to 99.46%, Tansa at 98.24%, Middle Vaitarna at 98.86%, and Bhatsa at 98.13%, a slight dip from Sunday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, predicting heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph.
A red alert remains in force for Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad till 11:15 a.m. Intense rainfall is also expected over Marathwada and the Konkan region.
