Puttur, Oct 12: A second-grade student who was hospitalised following a honeybee attack succumbed to her injuries on October 11, while another student continues to receive treatment at the hospital. A local resident who was stung while rushing to rescue them is recovering.

The deceased has been identified as Jisha (7), daughter of Kiran from Kootelu, Padnur village, and a student of Class 2 at Tenkila Vivekananda Kannada Medium School. Her cousin, Pratyush (10), son of Kiran’s brother Kishore and a Class 5 student of the same school, sustained serious injuries and is under treatment.

The incident occurred on October 10 evening when the two children alighted from their school vehicle near Sediyapu Kootelu and were walking home. Suddenly, a swarm of honeybees attacked them. Hearing their cries, a local resident, Narayan (40), rushed to their rescue, but the bees stung him as well.

All three were immediately taken to different hospitals in Puttur. As Jisha’s condition worsened, she was shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru, where she passed away.

Pratyush’s condition reportedly remains critical, and he too has been moved to a Mangaluru hospital for advanced treatment. Narayan is said to be recovering.

The tragic death of the only daughter has plunged the family into deep grief.

What a tragody.Small girls are being attacked by bees and poor little expired.May her soul rest in peace.I find here even hospitals are not equipped for such emergencies is very bad. They shift from one to other ,that makes situation still worse.May be little girl could have saved if they gave her anti shock injection ?immediately and then shift elsewhere?

RIP; wishing a fast recovery to her cousin! Whenever any insect stings, its considered to be a bee, whereas there are others like the hornet, which too can be extremely poisonous causing immediate anaphylactic reaction!
