Mangaluru, Nov 2: Catholic Association of South Kanara (CASK), in collaboration with the Young Catholic Students (YCS) Mangalore diocese, organized a one-day Diocesan Student Leadership Training Programme (DSLTP) on November 1st at Padua Institutions Auditorium, Nanthoor.
The programme commenced with a soulful prayer song, invoking God’s blessings, followed by a formal inaugural ceremony that set a positive and enthusiastic tone for the day.

Marjorie Texeira, the VP of CASK was the chief guest. She called upon the youth to imbibe leadership qualities and stressed upon the need to take up responsibilities in various organisations.
The first activity-based session was conducted by Queenie Maria D’Costa on the topic who is a leader and types of leadership. Through engaging interactions, she enlightened the participants about the essence of true leadership, emphasizing that a leader is not merely one who commands but one who inspires, guides, and serves.
Then the participants were energized for an interactive and dynamic session by Brian Fernandes on creative leadership. He began with a stimulating memory game designed to enhance focus and recall ability. Later, he divided the students into groups and assigned a creative task to construct a model of a church using limited resources. The activity fostered team spirit, collaboration, innovative thinking, and problem-solving skills among the participants.
After the lunch break, the third session was led by Joselyn T Lobo on the theme communication in leadership . Through an engaging and thought-provoking presentation, he highlighted the various forms of communication, the importance of perception, and the impact of clarity in expression.
The final session was delivered by Peter Anthony Pinto on rewards of leadership. He eloquently elaborated on five key dimensions of effective leadership satisfaction, influence, growth, fulfilment, and networking. Through insightful questions such as “Is being a leader free?” and “Do we get rewards for being a leader?” he encouraged participants to reflect deeply on the sacrifices and gratifications that accompany leadership.
The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing sincere gratitude to all the resource persons, organizers, and participants for their contributions to the success of the event. Richard Alvares, Fr Roshan D’Cunha (director, YCS Mangalore diocese), and Peter Pinto (CASK) distributed certificates of participation to all attendees.
