Udupi, Nov 27: The Department of Political Science and IQAC of MGM College organized a Mock Parliament event on the occasion of Constitution Day. Under the guidance of the Political Science Department. The BA students of the college enacted the roles of ruling party and opposition party representatives in the mock parliamentary session.
Various current and burning issues were taken up for discussion. Students debated on topics such as Operation Sindhoor, the violence in Manipur, agricultural issues, Minimum Support Price (MSP), GST, taxation, unemployment, corruption, women’s safety, education, student-related problems, and more. Deliberations between the ruling party and the opposition led to suggestions aimed at finding suitable solutions. The slogan “Jai Jawan Jai Kisan” echoed in between the proceedings.



Through this model youth parliament, the complete functioning of parliamentary activities was demonstrated. Awareness about the Constitution and the parliamentary system was created, and the importance of healthy debate was highlighted. Members spoke in multiple languages including Kannada, Hindi, English, and Telugu.
College principal Prof Vanitha Maiya, vice principal Dr M Vishwanath Pai, IQAC coordinator Prof Shailaja H, student welfare officer Prof Veera Ida Pinto, faculty members Aditi Bhat and Padmajha from the Department of Political Science, and retired department head Prof Kokkarne Surendranath Shetty were present. Head of the Political Science Department, Prof Vidyanath K, welcomed the gathering and read out the Preamble of the Constitution.
