Udupi, Dec 1: PHOCON 2025, the 28th annual pediatric hematology oncology conference, was successfully held from November 28 to 30 at the Dr TMA Pai Halls, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal. The event was organized by the department of pediatric oncology, KMC Manipal, in association with various PHO and IAP chapters.
The conference aimed to bring together experts, researchers, and healthcare professionals to advance the diagnosis, treatment, and management of pediatric hematological and oncological conditions. The scientific programme featured expert-led sessions, panel discussions, hands-on workshops on nursing, neuro-oncology, genetics, and stem cell transplantation, as well as presentations of groundbreaking research. The event also provided excellent opportunities for networking and collaboration, with participation from national and international faculty.

The conference was inaugurated by Dr Raj Warrier, former vice chancellor of MAHE, Manipal. Dr P Giridhar Kini, registrar, MAHE Manipal, and Dr Sudhakar Kantipudi, COO, Manipal Cluster, graced the occasion as guests of honour. Also present were Dr Shripad Banavali, chairperson, PHO chapter of IAP; Dr Manas Kalra, secretary, PHO chapter of IAP; Dr Anil K Bhat, dean, KMC Manipal; Dr Vasudeva Bhat K, professor & head, department of pediatric oncology and organising chairperson, PHOCON 2025; and Dr Archna M V, associate professor, pediatric oncology, and organising secretary, PHOCON 2025.
Speaking at the inauguration, Dr Raj Warrier highlighted the importance of academic conferences in keeping healthcare professionals updated in an evolving medical field. He also fondly recalled his past experiences at MAHE Manipal.
Dr Shripad Banavali provided an overview of PHOCON 2025, appreciated the organising committee for their efforts, and spoke about the journey of the PHO chapter of IAP.
Dr Manas Kalra presented the annual report of the PHO chapter of IAP, outlining the activities of the year and future initiatives.
During the event, Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to Col (Dr) A T K Rau and Dr Jagdish Chandra for their exemplary contributions to the field. Special Recognition Awards were conferred on ImPaCCT Foundation, Aroh Foundation, and Access Life Assistance Foundation for their dedicated service. MAHE alumni were also felicitated by Dr Pushpa Kini and Dr Nalini Bhaskarananda.
A significant highlight of the event was the handing over of the PHO Endowment Fund cheque by Dr Raj Warrier to dean Dr Anil K Bhat. The fund will be used to award a gold medal to the best outgoing student of the DM Pediatric Oncology program at KMC Manipal, instituted in the name of G P and Sarada Warrier. Several guidelines, posters books and newsletters related to Pediatric Hematology and Oncology were also released during the ceremony.
Dr Vasudeva Bhat K delivered the welcome address, offering insights into the PHO Endowment Fund, while Dr Archna M V proposed the vote of thanks. The conference witnessed participation from over 700 delegates from across India.
The smooth conduct of the event was supported by Dr Emine A Rahiman, Dr Swathi PM and Dr Chaitra Venkatesh.
