Doha, Dec 6: In a crucial step toward stabilising war-torn Gaza, an international authority entrusted with governing the region in the next phase of the U.S.-brokered ceasefire is expected to be announced by the end of this year, according to reliable diplomatic sources on Friday.
As per the ceasefire framework, the proposed Board of Peace, chaired by U.S. President Donald Trump, will supervise the reconstruction of Gaza under a renewable two-year mandate of the United Nations. The body is expected to comprise nearly a dozen leaders from key Middle Eastern and Western nations.

Alongside the governance structure, a committee of Palestinian technocrats will be unveiled to manage the daily administrative functioning of Gaza once hostilities fully cease. Diplomats privy to the negotiations indicated that a formal announcement may take place when President Trump meets Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later this month.
The ceasefire terms further include the deployment of an International Stabilization Force responsible for maintaining security and ensuring the disarmament of Hamas — a core demand of Israel. The Arab official indicated that the composition of this force is still under discussion, but deployment could begin by the first quarter of 2026. U.S. officials have echoed this timeline.
Meanwhile, talks are set to intensify in the coming weeks over implementing the second phase of the agreement, particularly the sensitive issue of disarming Hamas and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from areas still under their control.
Even as the blueprint aims to rebuild a region devastated by prolonged conflict, uncertainty hangs over funding commitments and the future political aspirations of Palestinians. Concerns are rising over limited Palestinian participation in decision-making and the absence of a concrete assurance of eventual statehood.
Though the ceasefire continues to hold since October 10, sporadic tensions and mutual allegations of violations have cast a shadow over the fragile calm. With one final handover of remains of an Israeli hostage still pending, the first phase of the truce inches closer to completion.
The coming months are expected to be decisive, as diplomatic efforts focus on transforming a temporary pause into a long-term pathway toward peace for millions awaiting normalcy in Gaza.
