Mumbai, Dec 12: A school security guard was injured in a rare and aggressive stray dog attack at Adarsh Vidyalaya School in Siddharth Nagar, Goregaon West, on Thursday morning. The incident occurred around 9.40 am on December 11 and was captured on the school’s CCTV cameras, with the footage quickly going viral and sparking concerns over the rising stray dog menace in urban areas.

The video shows the guard walking through the school gate in uniform when one stray dog near the entrance and another approaching from the front suddenly attacked. The dog leaped at the guard, biting his left shoulder. The guard managed to free himself using his free hand, after which the dog ran away. However, the animal charged again moments later, forcing another guard to intervene with a stick to prevent a second attack.

The incident has intensified debates about stray dog management in Mumbai, where dog bite cases have reportedly been increasing.

In response, animal welfare activists are gearing up for a citywide protest on December 14 at Vikrant Circle, Ghatkopar (East). Organised by the Pure Animal Lovers (PAL) Welfare Foundation, the rally aims to oppose the recent Supreme Court order and Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) Standard Operating Procedures, which mandate relocating stray dogs from public spaces to shelter homes.

The event is expected to draw attention to both public safety concerns and animal welfare issues, highlighting the challenges of balancing humane treatment of stray animals with the safety of city residents.
