Mumbai, Dec 13: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is in the process of inviting an e-tender for the development of the historic Mumbadevi temple premises on the lines of the Mahakal corridor in Ujjain, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde informed the Legislative Council on Friday.
In a written reply to a question, Shinde said that the Mumbai Heritage Conservation Committee has granted its no-objection to the proposed development plan. He added that the remaining work related to the project is now in its final phase.

“After receiving instructions from the Municipal Commissioner, the process of issuing e-tenders for the project work has been initiated,” Shinde stated.
He recalled that in 2023, during his tenure as chief minister, an announcement was made to develop the area surrounding the Mumbadevi temple in a comprehensive and integrated manner. As part of the plan, a dedicated redevelopment authority was also proposed to oversee the project.
The Mumbadevi temple, located in south Mumbai, holds immense cultural and religious significance. Goddess Mumbadevi is regarded as the patron deity of Mumbai, and the city is believed to have derived its name from the revered goddess.
