New Delhi, Dec 14: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday announced the appointment of Bihar minister Nitin Nabin as its national working president, with the decision taking effect immediately. Nabin currently serves as a minister in the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government, holding the Road Construction portfolio.

An official order issued by BJP national general secretary Arun Singh stated that the appointment had been approved by the party’s parliamentary board. “The BJP parliamentary board has appointed Nitin Nabin, minister, government of Bihar, as the national working president of the Bharatiya Janata Party,” the order read.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Nabin on his elevation, describing him as a dedicated worker who has built a distinct identity within the party. “He is a young and hardworking leader who possesses considerable experience in the organisation. His work as an MLA and minister in Bihar has been very effective, and he has worked with complete dedication to fulfil the aspirations of the people. He is known for his humble nature and for working on the ground,” PM Modi said. He expressed confidence that Nitin Nabin’s energy and commitment would further strengthen the party.

Nabin, a five-term Bihar MLA from the Bankipur Assembly constituency in Patna and a member of the Kayastha community, is likely to succeed incumbent BJP president J P Nadda.

The organisational reshuffle comes as the party transitions its top leadership structure. Nadda, appointed in January 2020, had already completed his original term and was granted multiple extensions to guide the party through crucial political milestones, including the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

JP Nadda also congratulated Nabin, calling him “a dynamic BJP leader from Bihar” and wishing him “a successful and illustrious tenure.” He added in a post on X: “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Nitin Nabin ji, the dynamic BJP leader from Bihar, the sacred land of knowledge and culture, and a minister in the Bihar government, on his appointment as the national executive president of the Bharatiya Janata Party. I am fully confident that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji and your leadership, the organisation will set new benchmarks in nation-building and public service.”

Born on May 23, 1980 in Ranchi, Jharkhand, Nitin Nabin comes from a family with deep political roots. He is the son of the late Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha, a veteran BJP leader and former MLA. Nabin entered active politics following his father’s demise and steadily rose through the party ranks.

He first won the Bankipur Assembly seat in a 2006 by-election and has retained it in every subsequent election in 2010, 2015, 2020, and 2025. In the 2025 Bihar Assembly polls, he secured another decisive victory, winning by a margin of over 52,000 votes.

Alongside his ministerial roles, Nabin has held several key organisational positions within the BJP, including national general secretary, state president of the BJP Yuva Morcha, election and organisational in-charge for Sikkim, and senior organisational responsibilities in Chhattisgarh, cementing his reputation as a leader with both administrative and organisational experience.

According to the election affidavit filed before the Election Commission in October, Nabin declared assets of around Rs 1 crore, including cash, bank deposits, insurance policies, investments, residential property, and land holdings. His affidavit also states that he has no criminal convictions, with relevant case-related columns either mentioning “nil” or providing court-wise details along with the current status, as per election rules.
