Kaup, Jan 5: A scooter rider died after sustaining serious injuries after a collision with a private bus on National Highway 66 at Pangala on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Krishna, a resident of Padukere.

According to sources, Krishna was riding his scooter from the service road towards the highway near Pangala when a private bus travelling from Udupi to Mangaluru collided with the two-wheeler.

Due to the impact, the scooter rider suffered severe injuries and was immediately shifted to a private hospital for treatment, where he breathed his last.

The accident caused temporary disruption to traffic as the bus remained stationed in the middle of the road. NSUI district president Saurabh Ballal, who was present at the scene, assisted in moving the bus to the roadside to ease traffic flow.

Kaup police rushed to the spot and conducted an inspection. Further investigation is under way.

Mangalore traffic is horrible. In some areas two wheelers, Rickshaws, heavy vehicles, busses including vehicles carrying fish are moving bumper to bumper. Every 2nd vehicle racing to go ahead of the next one. Atmosphere is filled with dust and carbon monoxide. Auto rickshaws refuse to take passenger to some areas during rush hours. Once a clean air is now a polluted with all sorts of pollutants.

The buses are running on highways on the speed lanes. But these two wheelers are creating more problems on highways. always 2 wheelers should be on the left side of the highways. They are seen mostly on right side which creates major problems for others, no side mirrors, no signals used while changing lanes, no speed limits for two wheelers. In the morning and evenings, if you are beside roadside, you see two-wheeler speeding more than the buses. All two wheelers must have mirrors, riders with helmets and speed governors and use of cell phones on side or inside helmet should be curbed. Driving Rules & Etiquette Speed: Adhere to posted speed limits. Lane Discipline: Ride in the correct lane. Indicators: Use turn signals for turns and lane changes. Mirrors: Use rearview mirrors; they are essential safety tools. No Overloading: Only one pillion rider is allowed. No Drunk Driving: Riding under the influence of alcohol is strictly prohibited. No Mobile Usage: Using phones while driving attracts heavy fines. Give Way: Make way for emergency vehicles like ambulances. No Rash/Reckless Driving: Avoid aggressive weaving or stunt riding. Footpath Riding: Do not ride on footpaths.

There is no respect and concern for two wheeler drivers on highways. Government should limit speeds of Public transport buses to 60 KM per hour max or mark dedicated lanes for autos and two wheelers on highways. This will save a lot of innocent lives.
