Bengaluru, Jan 5: A Bengaluru-based engineer, Pankaj Tanwar, has developed an AI-powered helmet capable of recording traffic violations in real time, drawing widespread attention and praise online.
Tanwar shared his invention on social media, describing how he “hacked his helmet into a traffic police device.”
“I was tired of stupid people on the road, so I hacked my helmet into a traffic police device,” he wrote on X.
Explaining its functioning, Tanwar added, “While I ride, an AI agent runs in near real time, flags violations, and proof with location & number plate goes straight to police.”

He attached images of the helmet and screenshots captured by the device, including one of a man riding a two-wheeler without a helmet. The image highlights the passenger with a red marking, while details such as location and vehicle number plate are automatically sent to authorities.
In another instance, the helmet flagged a man sticking his head out of a car sunroof as “stunt driving.”
The post went viral, amassing over 2 million views and a flurry of comments. Many users suggested extending the technology to report potholes.
“Super innovation,” one user commented. Another wrote, “Add a feature to report potholes, their inbox would explode.” A third added, “We need this tech for potholes,” while a fourth said, “Now this is truly revolutionary. 1,000 people using this in Bengaluru sending 100,000 emails per day!”
The Bengaluru City police also responded on X, praising the initiative: “We have come across your recent post regarding the helmet-based traffic violation detection concept and found the idea innovative and interesting from a road safety perspective.”
Still at the prototype stage, Tanwar’s AI helmet has captured the imagination of both netizens and authorities, demonstrating the potential of technology to improve road safety in India’s congested cities.
