Brahmavar, Jan 13: Illegal structures constructed on government land at Neer Jeddu in Heggundje village of Brahmavar taluk were demolished on Monday January 12 in an operation led by the Brahmavar tahsildar.
Brahmavar tahsildar Srikanth S Hegde stated that, in accordance with the orders of the Karnataka Land Grabbing Special Court and directions issued in a Lokayukta case, a building under construction and five unoccupied sheds built illegally on government land were removed.

It may be recalled, Vijay Chouta was accused of selling government land to a few individuals for money, following which unauthorised construction was taken up on the said land. In this regard, Vijayalakshmi Hebbadi of Mandarthi had filed a case before the court of the assistant commissioner, Kundapur subdivision.
Based on this, the assistant commissioner had directed the Brahmavar tahsildar to register the case before the special court. Meanwhile, on May 6, 2019, Vijayalakshmi had also submitted a complaint at the office of the Karnataka Public Land Corporation Limited court. Similar complaints were lodged with the revenue minister and the Lokayukta, Bengaluru.
As the case was already registered before the special court, the Lokayukta had closed the complaint, directing that action be taken in accordance with the verdict of the special court.
After hearing the matter, the Karnataka Land Grabbing Special Court issued directions to take appropriate legal action concerning the encroached land. The tahsildar stated that while action based on the special court’s order was still pending, the encroachers had begun constructing buildings on the government land.
Following local complaints, a site inspection was conducted on November 20, 2025, by the Heggundje village accountant along with the panchayat development officer. During the inspection, oral instructions were issued to stop the construction work and a report was submitted. However, the encroachers continued the construction without halting the work.
Subsequently, an intimation notice was issued from the taluk office directing the stoppage of construction. As the work continued despite this, an order was issued on January 8, 2026, to demolish the unauthorised structures and unoccupied sheds.
When officials went to carry out the demolition on that day, Heggundje gram panchayat president Ganesh Shetty, member Lokesh, and the encroachers obstructed the operation, forcing officials to suspend the action. A police complaint has already been filed regarding obstruction of the encroachment removal process.
Later, the operation was resumed, and the encroachments were successfully cleared on Monday, the tahsildar confirmed.
