Telangana, Jan 14: Ravula Jayasimha Reddy from Hanumakonda in Telangana continues to inspire civil services aspirants with his remarkable journey of cracking the UPSC examination without taking any formal coaching and steadily improving his rank across multiple attempts.

Currently selected for the Indian Police Service (IPS), Jayasimha Reddy had earlier secured the 217th rank in the civil services examination. With a determined focus on public service and governance, he reappeared for the examination and improved his performance significantly, securing the 104th rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2023, keeping his hopes alive for selection to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).

Hailing from Koyyad in Raghunathpally of Jangaon district, Jayasimha Reddy comes from an academic background. His father, Ravula Uma Reddy, serves as associate research director at the Regional Agricultural Research Centre in the Warangal region, while his mother Lakshmi is a homemaker.

Jayasimha Reddy prepared entirely from home, without enrolling in any coaching institute, and cleared the examination in his fourth attempt. He began his schooling in Jagtial up to Class 7, studied from Classes 8 to 10 at SR Edu School in Hanumakonda, completed his intermediate education at Sri Chaitanya Narayana in Hyderabad, and later pursued BTech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Hyderabad. After a brief stint of about two and a half months with a startup company, he began his civil services preparation in 2020.

In his first two attempts, he cleared the preliminary examination. His third attempt saw him clear the prelims, mains and interview, securing the 217th rank. In his fourth attempt, he improved further and achieved the 104th rank.

Explaining his motivation, Jayasimha Reddy said he chose the civil services believing that the IAS provides greater opportunities to serve farmers and the public. “With my earlier rank, I was selected for the IPS. I appeared again with the aim of entering the IAS and secured a better rank this time. I am hopeful of being selected for the IAS. If not, I will continue serving in the IPS,” he said.
