Bantwal: Leopard trapped in fence wire rescued by forest dept at Pilathabettu

Bantwal, Jan 15: A leopard that got trapped in an iron wire fixed to a fence was successfully rescued by a team of officials from the Venur forest department at Pilathabettu in Bantwal taluk.

The incident occurred at Ninyar in Pilathabettu village, where villagers noticed the leopard struggling after getting entangled in iron wire installed on a protective fence, leaving it unable to move. They immediately informed officials of the Venur forest department.

Forest officials rushed to the spot, where Pilikula veterinary officer Yashasvi Naravi administered a tranquiliser to the leopard. The animal was then carefully freed from the wire, safely placed in a cage, and shifted to the Venur forest department premises, where it was provided first aid.

Forest officials said the rescued animal is a female leopard aged around one-and-a-half years and is in good health.

The rescue operation was carried out under the guidance of assistant conservator of forests (ACF) Sridhar, with the participation of range forest officer Bharat, deputy range forest officer Sunil, and forest guards Divakar and Dinesh, who played a key role in successfully rescuing the leopard.
