Mangaluru, Jan 16: The Institute of Allied Health Sciences, Srinivas University, organized an Student Development Programme under the theme 'First aid awareness and emergency response'. The programme aimed to enhancing students’ knowledge and practical skills in managing medical and trauma emergencies. The programme focused on providing basic life-saving techniques, early recognition of emergencies, and appropriate first aid measures until professional medical help arrives.
This initiative was conducted to promote health awareness, preparedness, and responsible response among students during emergency situations.








Objectives of the programme:
1. To create awareness about the importance of first aid and emergency response.
2. To equip students with basic life-saving skills.
3. To train students in handling common medical and traumatic emergencies.
4. To improve confidence in responding to emergencies effectively and calmly.
5. To promote safety consciousness and preventive healthcare practices among students.
High lights of the programme:
Elsa K John delivered an informative and engaging session on First aid awareness and emergency response, emphasizing the critical role of timely intervention in saving lives and ensuring patient safety. The session provided a comprehensive overview of common medical and traumatic emergencies encountered in daily life and healthcare settings. The session covered essential emergency management techniques such as control of bleeding, management of fractures, handling of choking, and basic life support measures.
The speaker effectively integrated theoretical knowledge with practical clinical examples, enabling participants to understand real-life applications of first aid procedures.

Key activities conducted
An expert lecture was delivered by Elsa K John on First aid awareness and emergency response, emphasizing the importance of prompt and appropriate first aid measures in preventing complications and saving lives. The session covered the fundamentals of first aid, initial assessment of emergency situations, and management of common medical and traumatic emergencies.
Key areas discussed included control of bleeding, management of fractures, handling of choking, handwashing techniques, cut injury, basic life support principles.
The session was followed by an interactive question-and-answer session, during which participants actively engaged with the resource person, clarified doubts, and discussed real-life emergency scenarios. This interaction enhanced understanding, confidence, and practical preparedness among the participants.

The programme effectively enhanced the knowledge and practical awareness of students and faculty regarding first aid and emergency response. Participants demonstrated improved understanding of the principles of immediate emergency care, patient safety measures, prevention of complications, and appropriate decision-making during emergency situations. The programme also increased participants’ confidence in applying first aid techniques and responding promptly and effectively to medical and traumatic emergencies, thereby strengthening their preparedness for real-life emergency scenarios.
