Bengaluru, Jan 16: Kannada film and television actress Karunya Ram has approached the police with a complaint against her own sister, alleging fraud, misuse of money and gold ornaments, and harassment linked to betting app addiction.
According to the complaint, Karunya accused her sister Samruddhi Ram of misappropriating nearly Rs 25 lakh by taking money and gold from their house and using it for betting and to repay debts. The actress said the issue has left her family devastated and under severe mental distress.

The sisters, who were earlier known to share a close bond, have been living separately for the past three years. Karunya has also named several of Samruddhi’s close associates — Pratibha, Kapil, Prajwal, Rakshit and Sagar — alleging their involvement in the matter.
Initially, Karunya filed a complaint at the Rajarajeshwari Nagar police station, where a non-cognisable report was registered. She has now submitted a detailed complaint to the Central Crime Branch, accusing those involved of cheating, intimidation and social media harassment.
In an emotional video message shared online, Karunya revealed that her sister fell into the trap of betting apps, lost large sums of money and took loans, following which lenders began harassing the family. She said her parents, including her father who is a retired government official, endured the trauma silently for years.
“Betting apps have destroyed many families, and sadly ours has become one of them. For three years, my parents and I have lived with this pain. I want justice and peace for my family,” the actress said.
Karunya also appealed to the public not to promote betting apps, warning that such platforms are ruining lives and families. She added that all relevant evidence, including screenshots, has been submitted to the police for investigation.
