Mumbai, Jan 18: Sony TV’s MasterChef India Season 9 witnessed its first major twist on Friday as six competing jodis battled it out for the coveted immunity pin in a high-pressure challenge that tested both culinary skill and coordination.
The judges introduced a unique “switching” format, where one partner began cooking and the other had to complete the dish once the bell rang. The unexpected twist left several pairs struggling to find rhythm, as seamless coordination became just as crucial as cooking expertise.

Standing out amid the chaos, father-daughter duo Avani and Venu Sharma delivered a flawless performance. Their innovative dessert, Deep Aradhana, blended classic Indian sweets with a creative touch, using kaju katli and gajar halwa as key elements. The dish’s taste and presentation impressed judges Ranveer Brar, Vikas Khanna and Kunal Kapur, earning the duo the immunity pin and safety from elimination.
The challenge also featured sisters Anju Pradhan and Manju Ohja, siblings Anshmeet Singh and Prabhdeep Kaur, brothers Ajinkya and Vikram, jethani-devrani pair Archana Manoj Dhotre and Rupali Vikash Jadhav, and brother-sister duo Yasmin Ansari and Mehfooz Alam Ansari. Despite strong efforts, coordination issues proved costly for several teams.
With the immunity pin secured, Avani and Venu Sharma are safe this week, while the remaining contestants will face intense upcoming challenges to stay in the competition. MasterChef India Season 9 airs Monday to Friday at 9 pm on Sony Entertainment Television and streams on SonyLIV.
