Mangaluru, Jan 26: The 77th Indian Republic Day was celebrated with solemn grandeur and patriotic fervour at Father Muller Charitable Institutions, as the institution’s front grounds were ceremoniously arranged for the early morning celebrations on January 26.
Dr Michael Santhumayour, administrator of Father Muller Medical College Hospital, Father Muller College of Physiotherapy and Father Muller College of Allied Health Sciences, unfurled the National Flag. The ceremony resonated with pride as the gathering stood in unison to sing the Indian National Anthem, Jan Gan Man, reaffirming their collective allegiance to the nation.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Santhumayour reflected on India’s 76-year journey as a Republic, firmly rooted in the constitutional ideals of social justice, equality, and freedom of expression. He drew attention to contemporary challenges marked by social strife and religious animosity, urging all citizens to steadfastly uphold the Constitution of India. Echoing the vision of Dr B R Ambedkar, he underscored the importance of safeguarding secularism as the cornerstone of India’s democratic fabric. He further invoked Rabindranath Tagore’s timeless vision of a nation that rises in freedom of thought, reason, and unity, calling upon the audience to strive collectively towards that ideal.
The prayer song was reverently led by students of Father Muller College of Nursing, followed by a stirring patriotic rendition by students of Father Muller Medical College, adding depth and emotion to the celebrations.
The guard of honor with dedication to the day was rendered by the Father Muller Security personnel whose blue attire and poise gave a starling reminder of the Rajpath fervor.
Members of the management committee, advisory board, and the Father Muller Charitable Centenary Society, along with faculty, staff, students, and well-wishers, gathered in large numbers, standing together in reverence and national pride. Patients and their attendants also joined the observance, pausing in respect as the National Anthem was rendered, reflecting the inclusive spirit of the occasion.
The ceremony was gracefully compered by Dr Carol Thomas, first year resident from the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, whose conduct maintained the dignity and patriotic tone of the event. Sushma physical director FMCON helped with the unfurling and tieing knots. Dr Saritha Lobo head opthalmology presented a sapling momento to Dr Santhumayour.
In keeping with its long-standing tradition, Father Muller Charitable Institutions once again marked Republic Day with robust ceremonial spirit, continually inculcating patriotism and a sense of national service within its institutional family. The celebrations concluded on a warm and joyful note with the distribution of special ladoos, evoking fond childhood memories and shared joy among all present. Dr Shivashankar AR Principal FMAHSCT welcomed the gathered and provided a bio sketch on the academic and cultural achievements of Dr Santhumayour.
