Mangaluru, Feb 6: Karnataka Legislative Council member Ivan D’Souza visited Nanthoor and held discussions with traffic police officials and Mangaluru City Corporation authorities to understand the issues leading to frequent accidents in the area.

During the inspection, traffic police officials pointed out several shortcomings, including the absence of proper streetlights, lack of zebra crossings, and non-availability of road safety signboards. They also highlighted that the retaining wall work undertaken for road widening has been left incomplete. In addition, buses were not stopping properly at the bus stop, and officials said the City Corporation must put proper arrangements in place to address this issue.

The traffic police further noted that there are no signboards at the Nanthoor junction, and stated that if the National Highways Authority installs the required signage, it would enable smoother implementation of road safety measures and facilitate their work effectively.

Responding to the concerns, MLC Ivan D’Souza assured that he would convene a meeting of all concerned officials and issue instructions to ensure that the identified problems are resolved at the earliest.

Police officers Nazm Shareef and G K Bhat, former mayors Shashidhar Hegde and Bhaskar Moily, and local residents Stanley Bantwal, James Praveen, Keshav Maroli, Ashok D K, Nausyad, among others, were present during the visit.
