Bangalore: KPCC Demands Bopaiah's Resignation on CEC Indictment

Bangalore, Feb 28: Upping the ante against Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah, the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee on Tuesday demanded the former's resignation on being indicted by the Central Empowered Committee of the Supreme Court for violating the Forest Conservation Act and Wildlife Conservation Act in the construction of a road in Pushpagiri of Kodagu District.

The Speaker hails from the Kodagu district. He along with ruling BJP MLA Appachu Ranjan have been indicted by the CEC constituted by the Supreme Court for their role in the alleged violation of the laws.

In a press release, the KPCC President Dr G Parameshwar said that Bopaiah was not only indicted by the apex court for disqualifying MLAs including the independent members of the Assembly, but his order was set aside by it.

The Congress leader said the latest incident by the Supreme Court appointed Central Empowered Committee had brought great disrepute to the fair name of Karnataka in the country, which saw great speakers such as Mavalankar and Ananthashayanam Iyengar in the Lok Sabha and Vaikuntha Baliga in the state.

The Supreme Court, he said had criticised Bopaiah for taking partisan decision in the MLA disqualification case.

The KPCC Chief said the CEC in its report to the apex court had indicted him for violating the two forest Acts to construct a road in the forest area.

The CEC had recommended that suitable action be taken against the Speaker, Dr Parameshwar said and demanded that Bopaiah should not continue in his position even for a moment.

    BJP party set aside all good and parliamentary precedents for a moratorium I would say.Being a national political party it broke parliamentary democracy norms and precedent and therefore owes an explanation to it's voters in general and nation in particular.

    However, Speaker of Karnataka Legislative lost moral and legal right to continue in the office.The CEC's observation is a serious and history, henceforth should tender his resignation immediately.
