Class 11 student dies after snakebite at school

Thanjavur, Feb 9: A 17-year-old schoolboy from Tiruvarur district died on Sunday after battling for life for a week following a snakebite at his school, sources said.

The deceased has been identified as M Sivaprakasam, a resident of Kethanur village and a Class 11 student of a government higher secondary school in Haridwaramangalam. The incident occurred on February 4, when Sivaprakasam was reportedly taking books out of his school bag inside the classroom, during which he was bitten by a krait.

Teachers immediately rushed him to the Government Thanjavur Medical College Hospital (TMCH), where he was admitted for treatment. Despite sustained medical care, the teenager failed to respond and succumbed on Sunday.

Following the incident, Haridwaramangalam police registered a case of unnatural death and arranged for a post-mortem examination. Further investigation is underway.
