Bantwal, Mar 6: In connection with the case of a pile of Aadhaar cards found on the banks of the Netravati river near the 10th Mile stone close to Farangipete, a team of officials from the postal department visited Pudu village on Thursday to conduct an investigation. However, the Aadhaar cards that were reportedly found near the riverbank were not available to them, sources said.

On Friday morning, the assistant superintendent of posts of Mangaluru and inspectors from the postal department visited the Pudu gram panchayat and held discussions with president Ramlan Maripalla and others. However, it is learnt that the documents related to the Aadhaar cards were not handed over to the department officials. Department sources said that without the records, it is difficult to carry forward the investigation.

When the cards found on the riverbank were examined earlier, it was said that they belonged to residents of Pudu village. Allegations had surfaced that the cards, which had arrived for delivery at the Pudu post office located in Maripalla near Farangipete, were thrown into the river instead of being delivered. Hence, the postal department had taken the matter seriously.

Questions have now arisen as to why the person who recorded a video of the cards found on the riverbank, circulated it on social media, and made statements against the postal department has not handed over the recovered documents to the postal officials. If the department receives the documents, the background of the case could become clear.

According to preliminary information from the postal department, the incident did not occur in the last one or two years. The current staff at the Pudu post office have been working there only for the past two years, and it is suspected that the incident might have taken place before they joined. Staff who were working until December 2022 are currently serving in other locations. In between, a locally qualified person had been working on a stop-gap basis in the department. However, Mangaluru postal superintendent Dinesh said that to determine when the incident actually occurred, the records of the recovered cards are necessary.
