Adani Power wins 1,600 MW supply contract from Maharashtra discom

Ahmedabad, Mar 15: Adani Power Limited (APL), India’s largest private sector power generator, has secured a Letter of Award from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) to supply 1,600 MW of electricity from one of its upcoming ultra-supercritical thermal power projects.

The company emerged as the lowest bidder in the competitive process, quoting a combined tariff of Rs 5.30 per kilowatt-hour. Power supply under the proposed 25-year Power Supply Agreement (PSA) is expected to begin from the financial year 2030–31.

According to the company, the contract comes at a time when investments in the thermal power sector are witnessing renewed momentum. Adani Power has been expanding its generation capacity in line with the country’s goal of adding around 100 GW of thermal power capacity by 2032.

During FY25–26, the company has secured five long-term PSA bids totalling 10,400 MW.

Commenting on the development, Adani Power CEO S. B. Khyalia said rising electricity demand in India makes reliable long-term capacity addition essential for ensuring energy security.

“With India’s power demand continuing to rise steadily, long-term and reliable capacity addition is critical. This award from MSEDCL reflects our competitiveness and ability to deliver dependable baseload power while supporting India’s growing electricity needs,” he said.

Following this agreement, Adani Power has now secured long-term PSAs for 13.3 GW of its 23.8 GW under-implementation capacity pipeline. Currently, more than 95 per cent of the company’s operational capacity of 18.15 GW is tied up under medium- to long-term contracts.
The MSEDCL tender also includes a pre-determined coal linkage, ensuring long-term fuel security and stable power supply.

Adani Power is currently undertaking one of the largest thermal power expansion programmes in the private sector, aiming to increase its installed capacity from 18.15 GW to 41.87 GW by FY31–32. The expansion plan involves investments of about Rs 2 lac crore and is expected to support India’s growing power demand driven by economic growth, urbanisation and rising household electrification.
