Mangaluru: UHV Cell inaugurated at YIASCM

Mangaluru, Mar 25: The Yenepoya Institute of Arts, Science, Commerce & Management (YIASCM), a constituent institute of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), inaugurated its Universal Human Values (UHV) Cell (AICTE) on Monday, March 23 at the Kulur Campus.

The UHV Cell was inaugurated by justice N Santosh Hegde, former Judge of the Supreme Court of India and former Lokayukta of Karnataka. In his address, Justice Hegde underscored the critical role of integrity in governance and public life, stating that ‘Integrity is not an option in public life; it is the very foundation on which trust is built.’ He further emphasized that justice must be both delivered and perceived fairly and highlighted the importance of citizens standing firmly against corruption for national progress.

R Upendra Shetty, chairman of the Universal Group of Institutions and guest of honour, emphasized the role of education in shaping character and purpose. He noted that true leadership lies in empowering individuals and that institutions flourish when vision aligns with commitment.

Presiding over the function, Dr Sripathi Rao, pro vice chancellor of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), congratulated YIASCM for emerging as a model among its constituent colleges. He remarked that knowledge becomes meaningful only when applied with wisdom, reinforcing the objectives of the UHV initiative.

Prof Jeevan Raj, principal (I/C), emphasized the role of educators in shaping future generations, stating that ‘A good teacher doesn’t just teach subjects but inspires lives.’ He further noted that ‘Consistency and discipline are the silent drivers of success.’

In her introductory remarks, Prof Shareena P, dean, faculty of Commerce and Management, vice principal, and chairperson of the UHV Cell, highlighted the importance of implementing Universal Human Values in accordance with AICTE guidelines.
Narayan Sukumar A, vice principal, heads of departments, faculty members, and students were present.

Dr Deekshitha Prashanth, faculty coordinator, welcomed the gathering. Dr Shalini Sequeira, convener of the UHV Cell and head, department of Linguistic Studies, proposed the vote of thanks. The event was compered by Pinakini Shetty, assistant professor, department of Commerce.

The establishment of the UHV Cell, in line with AICTE guidelines, aims to promote value-based education, ethical conduct, and holistic development among students, thereby strengthening the institution’s commitment to responsible citizenship and professional integrity.
