New Delhi, Apr 1: The Rajya Sabha witnessed a heated exchange on Tuesday during the Zero Hour after Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge objected to remarks made against the Congress party and demanded that they be expunged from the official records.
Raising the issue in the House, Kharge strongly condemned the reference to the party, stating, “We condemn this and it should be expunged,” and urged the Chair to ensure that such remarks are removed from proceedings.
In response, Leader of the House J P Nadda defended the comments, saying they were made in the context of concerns over Indian politicians raising questions about the country’s institutions during visits abroad.

“The issue is that our politicians raise questions about the institutions of the country when they travel abroad. He (the member) showed concern over that,” Nadda said.
Following this, Opposition members continued to raise objections, leading to disruptions in the House. Several members demanded immediate action from the Chair and reiterated their demand to strike the remarks off the record.
Amid the uproar, the Chairman assured the House that he would examine the matter and review the remarks made by the concerned member before taking a decision on whether they should be expunged.
The incident led to a brief disruption in proceedings, highlighting ongoing tensions between the treasury benches and the Opposition over political remarks inside Parliament.
