Mount Carmel Central School kicks off Summer Sports Camp 2026, inaugurates new table tennis arena

Mangaluru, Apr 2: Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru, inaugurated the Summer Sports Camp on its school grounds on March 31, 2026, with great enthusiasm and excitement.

In a unique and vibrant gesture, the dignitaries were escorted to the dais on skates by skaters Glania Lobo and Alina Goveas, adding a lively touch to the occasion.

The distinguished guests for the event included Fr Ravi Kumar, superior general, MSIJ; Ashwin Padukone, national-level table tennis player and ITTF Level 3 certified coach; Mohammed Sayifuddeen, AIFF D licensed football coach; Dale D’Souza, basketball coach; and Santhosh Misquith, ICC level 1 & level 2 certified cricket coach. They were joined by principal Sr Melissa, joint secretary Sr Josephine Pais, administrator Sr Carissima, superior Sr Asha Prima, and vice principal Sr Teena.

The programme commenced with a prayer song by the grade 10 students, invoking God’s blessings for the success of the camp. This was followed by a warm welcome address by Ancel D’Costa, who graciously welcomed the dignitaries and the gathering.

The official inauguration was marked by the pressing of a buzzer, followed by a burst of colourful confetti, symbolising the energetic spirit of the camp. The dignitaries were then guided to various sports arenas, football, cricket, table tennis and basketball, where students showcased brief, symbolic demonstrations of each game.

In his address, Ashwin Padukone encouraged the campers to make the most of the opportunities provided and to fully enjoy the experience, while also highlighting the importance of discipline and consistent practice in achieving sporting excellence.

Principal Sr Melissa, in her inspiring message, remarked that the school management believes in nurturing the whole child. By giving equal importance to academics, co-curricular activities and sports, and by providing the best facilities, MCCS strives to shape confident, disciplined, and well-rounded individuals ready to face the future.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Aloma Lobo, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the guests, management, PETs and participants. The programme was gracefully compered by Jesnia Correa.

A special highlight of the day was the inauguration of the newly designed and well-equipped Mount Carmel Table Tennis Academy. The dignitaries officially opened the facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and Fr Ravi Kumar blessed the arena as the school choir rendered a soulful blessing song. The atmosphere was filled with joy and excitement as guests, parents and students enthusiastically tried out the new tables.

The event concluded on a spirited note, marking the beginning of an exciting and enriching journey at the MCCS Summer Sports Camp 2026, a celebration of energy, teamwork and the spirit of holistic growth.
