AAP Gujarat chief Isudan Gadhvi released on bail after arrest over protest in Dwarka

Ahmedabad, Apr 2: Isudan Gadhvi, Gujarat state president of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was released on bail late Wednesday night following his arrest over a protest in Devbhumi Dwarka district.

Gadhvi, along with several party supporters, had been detained by Khambaliya police on charges of rioting and obstructing public servants during a protest at a local police station.

The incident dates back to April 1, when Gadhvi and his supporters reached the police station to protest the detention of an AAP worker, identified as Deepak, in connection with a robbery case. Police alleged that the group created a disturbance, intimidated personnel on duty and live-streamed the protest on social media, potentially inciting unrest.

After securing bail, Gadhvi strongly criticised the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging political interference in police functioning.

“The police are no longer acting independently; they are working under instructions from the BJP office. We went there seeking justice for a wrongly accused worker, but instead, we were arrested. This is an attempt to suppress our voice,” he said in a video message.

He further asserted that such actions would not deter the party’s efforts. “Our fight for the people will continue. The support we received from citizens shows that Gujarat is ready for change,” he added.

Meanwhile, police maintained that the arrests were carried out in response to “unlawful assembly and rioting,” defending their action as necessary to maintain law and order.

With elections approaching in the state, the incident is expected to intensify political tensions, particularly in the Saurashtra region.
