Chennai, Apr 4: A fresh round of political confrontation has unfolded in Tamil Nadu, with leaders from rival parties strongly criticising recent remarks made by Edappadi K. Palaniswami against Chief Minister M. K. Stalin.

Vaiko and M. Veerapandian accused the AIADMK chief of lowering the tone of political debate at a crucial time ahead of elections. They argued that such remarks divert attention from pressing public issues and undermine meaningful political engagement.

Vaiko launched a strong critique, alleging that Palaniswami’s statements were driven by political motives rather than substantive concerns. He claimed that the AIADMK was attempting to regain its footing through personal attacks instead of focusing on policy matters. He also accused Palaniswami of aligning with the BJP under pressure, suggesting that central agencies had influenced his political stance.

Calling the comments against Stalin “malicious” and “baseless,” Vaiko cautioned that such rhetoric could trigger a significant political backlash. He defended Stalin’s political career, highlighting his long-standing grassroots involvement in the DMK and his experience in key administrative roles.

Vaiko further referenced developments following the death of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, noting that Stalin had to approach the courts to secure a burial site for his father near the memorial of C. N. Annadurai. He alleged that permission had initially been denied by the government led by Palaniswami before judicial intervention allowed it.

Echoing similar concerns, Veerapandian criticised what he described as an “opportunistic” alignment between the AIADMK and the BJP, attributing it to pressure from central investigative agencies like the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation. He said such developments had weakened the party and shifted attention away from its internal issues.

Veerapandian also condemned the personal nature of the allegations against Stalin, calling them inappropriate for a leader who previously held the office of Chief Minister. He urged Palaniswami to focus on constructive, issue-based discussions as the state heads toward an important electoral phase.
