Washington, Apr 6: US President Donald Trump has once again extended his deadline for Iran by just 24 hours, keeping global tensions on edge and uncertainty looming over a potential conflict.
In a brief post on his Truth Social platform, Trump announced, “Tuesday, 8:00 P.M. Eastern Time!”, without elaborating further. The move marks yet another extension after the initial five-day deadline was stretched to ten days and then delayed again hours before expiry.
At the centre of the crisis lies the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, which has remained effectively blocked by Iran since late February, severely disrupting global oil supplies and escalating fears of a broader confrontation.

Washington has demanded that Tehran reopen the strait, warning of severe military consequences if it fails to comply. Trump, in recent media interactions, adopted an increasingly aggressive tone, cautioning that failure to strike a deal could result in massive destruction targeting Iran’s infrastructure.
“If they don’t make a deal and fast, I’m considering blowing everything up and taking over the oil,” Trump said in a televised interview, asserting that the United States is in a “very strong position” and that Iran could take decades to recover from any potential strike.
Despite the strong rhetoric, Trump indicated that diplomatic efforts are still underway. He said there is a “good chance” of reaching an agreement soon, claiming that Iran has already made concessions on key issues, including its nuclear programme.
“The big thing is they’re not going to have a nuclear weapon,” he said, suggesting that aspect of the negotiations was “already done.”
While expressing hope for a swift resolution, Trump maintained that the situation remains fluid, reiterating that the conflict should conclude in “days, not weeks,” even as he warned that few options would be off the table if talks collapse.
