Beltangady, Apr 16: The Beltangady police have arrested right-wing activist Puneeth Kerehalli in Bengaluru in connection with a case involving the delivery and circulation of a hate speech on social media. He is currently being brought to Beltangady for further investigation.
The arrest follows Kerehalli’s repeated failure to appear before the police for questioning. A case had been registered against him based on a complaint filed on August 7, 2025, by Joram Barboza, a resident of Hunsekatte in Kasba village, Beltangady. The complainant alleged that Kerehalli had made provocative remarks aimed at creating communal disharmony and had circulated the video on social media platforms.

Following the registration of the case, the Beltangady police had issued several notices to Kerehalli. Due to his continued non-compliance, the police obtained an arrest warrant from the Beltangady court. A special team then travelled to Bengaluru to execute the warrant and took him into custody.
After preliminary interrogation, he is expected be produced before the local court.
