Two killed in separate road mishaps in Bantwal & Beltangady taluks

Bantwal / Beltangady, Apr 16: Two separate road accidents in Dakshina Kannada district on Thursday claimed the lives of a motorcyclist and an auto driver in Bantwal and Beltangady taluks respectively.

In the first incident, a motorcyclist died after a collision with an auto near Kukkaje junction on the Salethoor–Marnabailu connecting road in Bantwal taluk.

The deceased has been identified as Manish (22), son of Ashok and a resident of Kukkaje Bail in Ira village. He was the only son of his family and was working as a labourer at Vikas Shamiana establishment in Munchi.

Police said Manish was riding his motorcycle from Salethoor towards Kukkaje when an oncoming auto collided with his vehicle. The impact was severe, throwing him onto the road and leaving him critically injured.

Locals immediately rushed him to hospital in an ambulance, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way.

Bantwal traffic police visited the spot, conducted an inspection, and registered a case.

The untimely death of the young man, who was the sole support of his family, has cast a pall of gloom over the Kukkaje region.

In a separate incident in Beltangady taluk, an auto driver died after his vehicle overturned near Aladangadi.

The deceased has been identified as Devappa (37), a resident of Haradde in Navara village and an auto driver by profession.

According to police, Devappa was returning towards Aladangadi from Guruvayanakere after dropping a passenger near Sathyadevata Temple when the accident occurred.

It is reported that a dog suddenly crossed the road, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle, which then overturned.

Devappa sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital, but he died on the way.

Police have registered a case and are investigating both incidents.
