Dubai, Apr 18: The Strait of Hormuz has reopened to commercial shipping following a ceasefire linked to tensions in Lebanon, with both the United States and Iran confirming the development.
US President Donald Trump and Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the crucial maritime route is now fully operational. While Trump indicated that the strait is ready for unrestricted passage, he reiterated that the US naval blockade targeting Iran will remain in place until a broader agreement is reached.
The reopening of the strategic waterway triggered an immediate response in global markets, with oil prices declining and stock markets posting gains amid easing supply concerns.

On the ground, the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah appears to be holding, offering temporary relief after weeks of intense conflict. The pause in hostilities has enabled thousands of displaced families in Lebanon to begin returning to their homes.
Despite the positive signals, uncertainty remains as diplomatic efforts continue and key issues between the involved parties are yet to be resolved.
