Kanpur, Apr 19: In a deeply disturbing incident reported from Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur, a 48-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing his 11-year-old twin daughters at his residence in the early hours of Sunday.
The accused, identified as Shashi Ranjan Mishra, a medical representative originally from Bihar, is alleged to have slit the throats of his daughters, Riddhi and Siddhi, inside their flat. He later reportedly called the police himself and informed them about the incident.

According to police sources, Mishra lived in Kanpur with his wife Reshma, their twin daughters, and a six-year-old son. Investigators said preliminary findings suggest ongoing domestic issues, including suspicions of infidelity, which may have led to frequent disputes within the family.
The victim’s mother, Reshma, told police that her husband had been suffering from depression and had installed multiple CCTV cameras inside the house. She also alleged that he would restrict her movement within the home, particularly access to the children’s rooms.
She further stated that after dinner on Saturday night, the children went to sleep with their father. Around 2.30 am, he allegedly took one of the girls to the washroom before returning to the room. A couple of hours later, he contacted emergency services and confessed to the crime.
When police reached the flat, both minor girls were found dead with severe injuries, while the accused was present at the scene.
Police officials confirmed that Shashi Ranjan Mishra has been taken into custody and a detailed investigation is underway. “All angles, including mental health concerns, are being examined,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Deependra Nath Chaudhary.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, officials added.
The shocking incident has triggered widespread concern over mental health issues and domestic stress factors contributing to extreme violence.
