Bhubaneswar, Apr 21: President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday said that India’s overall progress depends on the development of every section of society, urging citizens to actively contribute to the nation’s growth.
Speaking at a public event in Rourkela during her day-long visit to the state, the President highlighted the importance of inclusive development, particularly in tribal-dominated regions such as Sundargarh district.
During the visit, she inaugurated several key facilities, including a planetarium, a science centre, the Nirmal Munda Parivesh Path, a Tribal Museum, and an Integrated Command and Control Centre, aimed at boosting educational, cultural, and administrative infrastructure in the region.

Praising Sundargarh’s natural and cultural richness, Murmu noted that its forests, hills, waterfalls, and rivers, along with vibrant folk traditions, contribute significantly to Odisha’s heritage. She also described the district as a land of brave individuals and sports talent.
The President pointed out that Rourkela has evolved into a cosmopolitan hub, attracting people from across India for employment, and has played a key role in promoting art, literature, tribal traditions, and sports in the state.
Emphasising government efforts, she said both the Centre and the state are implementing welfare initiatives focused on tribal upliftment, which are accelerating development in districts like Sundargarh.
Murmu encouraged citizens to take an active role in nation-building, urging them to support one another and work towards uplifting underprivileged communities. She stressed the importance of collective responsibility in achieving the vision of a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047, marking 100 years of India’s independence.
She also noted that Odisha will celebrate its centenary in 2036, adding that achieving a “Viksit Odisha” will require inclusive and all-round development with participation from every segment of society.
The event was attended by Hari Babu Kambhampati, Governor of Odisha, and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, among other dignitaries.
