Mangaluru, Apr 25: In a heroic act, a 16-year-old boy rescued a 10-year-old relative from drowning at Someshwar beach on Friday evening.

The victim, identified as Muhammad Arshman, a resident of Meginapete in Vittal, had visited the beach with his parents. While playing near the shore, he was suddenly swept away by a powerful wave.

Observing the child struggling in the water, Muhammad Ismail Faiz (16), son of Ashraf from Mudipu, immediately jumped into the sea. Risking his own life, Faiz battled the waves for nearly 10 minutes before successfully pulling Arshman to safety. Local swimmers also rushed to assist in the final moments of the rescue.

The exertion left Faiz exhausted, and he lost consciousness shortly after reaching the shore. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital in the city by family members and is currently recovering. Arshman escaped the ordeal without injury.

Faiz, a student of an English medium school in Mudipu, recently cleared his SSLC examinations with 509 marks. He is also a state-level karate practitioner, having secured second place in a recent competition. His courage and presence of mind have earned widespread praise from the public.

"I know how to swim, and that gave me the confidence to jump in. I struggled for about 10 minutes to keep him afloat and bring him back," Faiz told reporters.

Both families had visited the beach together for an outing when the incident occurred.
