Mumbai, Aug 26: Actress Parvathy Thiruvothu has revealed why this year's Onam celebrations hold special significance for her, as she prepares to host her parents at her home for the first time.

Speaking exclusively to reporters, Parvathy said Onam usually involves travelling to her parents' home, but this year she will welcome them to her own house, making the festival a more meaningful family occasion.

"Usually, Onam means travelling back to where my parents live, but this year is extra special because, for the first time, I get to host them at my home," she said.

The actress said her work schedule has become increasingly busy, making the opportunity to spend an entire day with her family particularly valuable.

"With work picking up, it has been an amazing but busy phase, so I'm especially grateful to have this day entirely dedicated to my family—my mom, dad and, of course, my dog Dobby," she added.

Parvathy said the family plans to celebrate Onam traditionally, with a sadhya, flowers and a pookalam. She also joked that the feast would likely be followed by an "inevitable food-induced nap".

"We're planning to celebrate the full Onam way, with a traditional sadhya, flowers, and a beautiful pookalam in the morning, followed by the inevitable food-induced nap!" she said.

More than the festivities, Parvathy said she is looking forward to spending uninterrupted time with her parents and appreciating the simple moments of togetherness.

For the unversed, Thiruvonam, the main day of the Onam festival, is being celebrated on Wednesday across Kerala and among Malayali communities around the world.

The festival is marked by colourful pookalams, traditional Onasadya and cultural celebrations, and is associated with the popular legend of King Mahabali. Onam is also a time for families and friends to come together and celebrates Kerala's rich culture, traditions, prosperity and spirit of unity.

The significance of Thiruvonam is rooted in the legend of King Mahabali, who is remembered for his generosity and prosperous rule.

On the professional front, Parvathy is awaiting the release of her Malayalam investigative thriller 'Pradhama Dhrishtya Kuttakkar'. The film also stars Mathew Thomas, Unnimaya Prasad, Vijaya Raghavan, Sidharth Bharathan and Azees Nedumangad, and is scheduled to hit theatres on September 11.
