Mumbai Indians sign Keshav Maharaj as Santner Replacement for IPL 2026

Daijiworld Media Network - Mumbai

Mumbai, Apr 28: Mumbai Indians have signed South African spinner Keshav Maharaj as a replacement for Mitchell Santner, who has been ruled out of Indian Premier League 2026 due to a shoulder injury.

Santner sustained the injury on his left shoulder during Mumbai’s recent match against the Chennai Super Kings on April 23. The franchise wished him a speedy recovery and expressed hope of seeing him back in action soon.

Maharaj, a seasoned left-arm spinner, brings significant international experience, having been a consistent performer for South Africa since his debut in 2016. Known for his control and ability to build pressure, he has been a key figure in the Proteas lineup across formats.

Notably, Maharaj was picked for South Africa’s squad for the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup before making his T20I debut. He later captained the side in the format against Sri Lanka and made an immediate impact by taking a wicket with his very first delivery.

In his last 30 T20 matches, Maharaj has claimed 31 wickets, with best figures of 3 for 15.

Mumbai Indians welcomed the spinner, stating that his experience, discipline, and ability to perform under pressure make him a valuable addition to the squad as they aim for a strong campaign this season.
