Mangaluru: Inmate caught smuggling mobile phone into jail inside rectum

Mangaluru, Apr 30: An inmate returning to prison after being discharged from a hospital was caught attempting to smuggle a mobile phone hidden inside his rectum on Wednesday, April 30.

The prisoner, identified as Mohammed Tohid, had been admitted as an inpatient to Wenlock Hospital for treatment on April 24. Following his discharge on April 29, he was brought back to the District Prison in Kodialbail at approximately 5:15 pm.

During the mandatory security screening at the prison entrance, Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (KSISF) personnel used a metal detector, which began beeping near the inmate's lower body. Upon intense questioning, Tohid confessed to concealing a mobile phone in his rectum.

The inmate was subsequently taken back to the hospital, where doctors successfully removed a keypad mobile phone. The Barke police have registered a case regarding the incident and are conducting further investigations.
