Maharashtra, May 1: Demonstrating remarkable perseverance and determination, Tejasvi Deshpande from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar has cleared the prestigious Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination in her third attempt, securing an impressive All India Rank (AIR) 99.
The UPSC Civil Services results were declared on Tuesday, with candidates from Maharashtra registering commendable success. Tejasvi’s achievement stands out as a story of grit, as she was unable to clear the preliminary examinations in her first two attempts. Undeterred by failure, she continued her preparation and finally succeeded in her third attempt.

Tejasvi completed her schooling and college education at Nath Valley School before moving to Delhi for higher studies. She pursued a BA economics (Hons) degree at Lady Shri Ram College (LSR), Delhi. It was during her undergraduate studies that she began preparing for the UPSC examination in 2021.
“After completing my 12th commerce from Nath Valley School, I joined BA economics (Hons) at Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi. My parents are doctors, but I wanted to pursue a different field. I started preparing for competitive examinations in 2021 while doing my undergraduate course,” she said.
Her father, Dr Prasad Deshpande, is head of the psychiatry department at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), while her mother, Dr Gauri Deshpande, is a dentist.
Tejasvi said she enjoys playing basketball and listening to music. Sharing advice for future aspirants, she said, “Those preparing for the preliminary examination should focus on revision, practice, and mock tests. I studied around seven to eight hours daily.”
Apart from academics, Tejasvi has excelled in sports as a national basketball player. She represented the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district basketball team in several state-level school competitions and also played in national basketball tournaments as part of the Maharashtra State team.
Representing Delhi University, she won a silver medal in the All India Inter-University competition. She played as a power forward and was known as a sharp three-point shooter.
She participated in various MUNs and was the secretary general of the NVS Model United Nations She was honoured with the prestigious Good Human Being Award of Nath Valley School for her leadership and all-round performance. She was the School Captain in 2018 and also captain of the school basketball team. She represented Maharashtra State in the National Games.
